Did you guys do some research before retiring 6.15 for 10.6.8, used by a majority of Mac pros that don't have time to waste on the latest and greatest Apple half-baked OS versions? Here's my questions for you, dear Manager, as a paying customer for a Skype Pro subscription and purchased credit for years now: 1. How was it possible that my 10 year-old Skype account, to which I change passwords regularly, was hacked by a Russian guy on your ultra secure site, with endless authentications protocols for signing in? Why is the download page still showing Skype 6.15 available for download, with no warnings that it will NOT work anymore? Why is your Skype site still listing Mac OS X 10.6.8 as the minimum system required? I strongly suggest that this lack of transparency is consistent with Microsoft software blunders and shows a complete disregard for users of the product, whose popularity is based on its reliability and name established long before Microsoft got its paws on it.
I would understand if for hardware/software inner works reasons that would not be possible anymore, but this is NOT the case, the app works just fine if you don't get out of it! And how can possibly keeping 6.15 alive may impact negatively your new 7.x version adoption if it fits the system is beyond my comprehension! Are you guys not in the business of keeping your customers happy, as it normally should be the case.

I currently have my firewall disabled. I have read through the Skype forums to try to find a solution and I have seen that a few other people have posted the same issue.
I have just downloaded Skype and I cannot get it work on my mac. I am running the newest version 2.8. Whenever I try to connect I get the error 'Cannot connect to Skype. Please check your network settings and try again'.
Go to your 'Home' folder. In the finder it has the little house next to it. Navigate to the Library folder. From there go to the Preferences folder. Equally well, you can - in the Finder - use the 'Go to folder.' Command in the Go menu (or type shift-command-G).

I used to use Skype daily, and constantly throughout the day. I updated about 5 months ago and I think I've opened the program twice since then but haven't chatted or made a call with anyone.
In the little box that appears, type '~/Library/Preferences' (no quotes) and that will get you to the Preferences folder. Once you are in the Preferences folder, find the file 'com.skype.skype.plist', move it to the desktop (or the trash, or anywhere but where it was). Then see if Skype will start up. If this lets Skype start up, you will probably have to tell it again what is your account name, password, reset your preferences, etc. Microsoft one note 2016 for mac. (If an application doesn't find its preference file in the Preferences folder, it just creates a new preference file.) Throw away the old one. I am by no means an expert here. But, if this were happening to me, I would definitely try the troubleshooting strategy of creating a new user and trying things there.

The only ones there were the freshly loaded one's from my latest download of Skype early this afternoon - no old or duplicates. I do suspect now that after I closed Skype after a successful call and it wouldn't reopen, that I might have trashed something I thought was related to Skype by accident.
